I had completed my paper designs and was now ready to take up my position on the macs. Supprisingly i enjoyed myself more when designing the music magazine and i was able to do different things to my design which made it look proffesional.
I kept to my plan and created a very successful music magazine cover. I chose to use three dominant colours, red, black and white. These colours are usually used with indie style magazine's (NME) therefore, as my magazine was going to be based on the genre indie, i chose those colours. I wanted my magazine title, 'Mus!c' to stand out from the page and create an eye-catching effect. To make this happen i enlarged the font size and used red. The background colour of my magazine was dark, using the colour red on the background made the title sharp and bold.
I chose to use my created band as the central image. By using this image it tells the reader that this issue is going to be focused on 'The Small Things'. I edited the image of my band, i created a blurred effect on the background of the image but kept the band members sharp and unchanged. This made themembers stand out and showed their importance to the magazine. As my interview for my double page spread was going to be based on jamie i cropped his image and layered him on top of the title. This created the effect that he was the more important of band members and more information about him is included in the magazine.
I had to include at least 5 imges on my magazine front cover. As the magazine was a 'Small Things' exclusive edition i chose to use more images of the band. I positioned the images at the bottom of the magazine and alotted different headings next to them. The headings related to information inside the magazine, 'Interviews' etc.
Also i chose to include a band list. This simply was the names of bands which were going to feature in the magazine. They would also be used in my contents. I included a barcode, issue number and date, this feature added to the magazine style effect and gave a proffessional finish to my creation.
There are many ways in which my magazine is the same as others, for example, the layout. Most magazines have a central image of chosen band members, and normally the magazine evolves around them. This is the same as my design, I used my created band as the central image as i was going to include an interview with them. Also i positioned the name of the magazine at the top and used colours which complimented each other. When analysing my design i struggled to pick out features which differed from an exsisting design. I had included a band list, headings, related information and a barcode. The only thing which i could have included was the word 'free'. By giving away items in the magazine, consumers would be lured in and have no second thoughts about buying the magazine.
